It’s not every day wedding guests get ferried up a hill to the reception by a tractor, but that was the done thing at Finola and Hannah’s nuptials recently! The wonderful ceremony took place at Powderham Castle near Exeter, with guests arriving in true Devon style to the iconic Belvedere Tower, a stunning structure which dates back to the 1700s.
We performed an hour-long acoustic set during the afternoon, providing relaxed background music as guests arrived and mingled, set up in a marquee next to the tower which overlooks the Exe Estuary - a truly stunning setting.
When everyone was ready for the main event, it was over to the happy couple who had learnt a dance routine to their first dance, Runaway by The Corrs. We were so impressed, that we weren’t surprised to learn later they’d been taking professional lessons - good work, girls!
We started our first set at 9.30pm and our second at 11pm, performing our usual mix of modern hits and classic tunes but also interspersing our trusty set with some requests: Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton, No Tomorrow by Orson and Wilson Phillips’ classic Hold On. As an all-male band, we think we pulled them off pretty well!!
It was our first time performing there and we can’t wait to return for another wedding. The setting was stunning and everything was brilliantly organised - you wouldn’t have known that there were two massive events taking place on the Powderham Castle grounds that weekend, with around 50,000 people visiting over the two days for the Let’s Rock and Sunday Sessions festivals!
Indeed, we were very grateful to receive free tickets to the Sunday Sessions to see Noel Gallagher the day after the wedding.
It’s not a bad life, y’know, being in an Exeter wedding band...
