Lusty Glaze Beach Wedding
On the weekend that Boardmasters was cancelled for stormy weather, our Newquay gig remained on. We were performing a wedding at Lusty Glaze for the first time; a venue synonymous with bands and DJs due to the 133 steps you have to take on to load all your gear in!
The venue is stunning - a unique, secluded cove on the outskirts of Newquay, Cornwall, with sea views and stunning sunsets the norm. As it’s such a famous load-in, we knew what to expect, and so carrying everything in - adrenalin pumping, ready for the gig - was easy. Luckily the rain had stopped mid-afternoon, so we didn’t have to battle any storms, and we were all set up and ready to go in no time.
After we were treated to a fantastic dance routine from Pete and Charlotte, the happy couple, for their first dance (You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne), we kicked off our first set. The first hour seemed to fly by, and before long we were taking our half-time break, greeted by an all-you-can-eat buffet of pizza and fish and chips - delicious, and very welcomed after that earlier descent!
After refuelling, we cracked back on with our second set at around 9.45pm - and that’s when the dancefloor really came to life. As the sun went down in the background and the temperature dropped outside, the party-goers came out in force. Guests flocked to the dancefloor from the first song, filling it until the last, with air-guitars, dad-dancing and some very Pete Townshend-esque windmilling making it a very fun spectacle for us to perform to!
Our first performance there was certainly one to remember - not least the ascent with all our gear after two hours performing! It’s all part of the Lusty Glaze experience though, and we wouldn’t change it for the world.
A massive thank you to the staff for looking after us so well, and our thanks and congratulations to Pete and Charlotte too - it was a fantastic evening, and we’re chuffed you asked us to be a part of it. The best of luck to you both.
