Bank holiday, shmank holiday! There was no day off for us this May bank holiday Monday, as we headed off to Cornwall for the wonderful wedding of Michelle and Mike!
Held at Trevenna, a beautiful and stylish barn wedding venue in Cornwall, the weather was great for their big day, with feels of summertime in the air. Thankfully, we got to enjoy some of the sunshine, as we were asked to not only perform the evening music but an acoustic set during the day, too. This consisted of an hour’s worth of chilled out music, performed in the background as guests mingled (think Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz), and is free if you hire the band for a wedding between Monday and Thursday.
Fast forward a few hours and we’re all set up in the venue, ready to perform their first dance.
The new Mr and Mrs Hayward chose The One by Kodaline, a song that we’ve had the pleasure of performing for a few first dances. It seems to be an increasingly popular choice and we’re not surprised – the lyrics are beautiful, the music at a great tempo and, well, they actually wrote it for a friend's first dance! You can’t get much more fitting than that, can you?
We kicked off our first set with The One around 7.45pm, playing for an hour before taking a break (and filling our stomachs with Cornish pasties and cheese – delish!). The second set started around 10pm, and that’s when the room truly came alive, with party-goers dancing from start to finish, interacting with the band and singing along at the top of their lungs. Great fun!
All in all, it was a fantastic day for us. The guests were all up for a party, Trevenna was a jaw-droppingly beautiful venue – and one we can’t wait to perform at again! – while the happy couple were really relaxed, kind and welcoming. They were even lovely enough to say we were the most “stress-free” part of their booking process, which is always great to hear. We try and make it as easy as possible, as we know there are many other things to arrange, so when someone tells us that it makes our day.
